A useful quotation for custom grooved acoustic panels starts with the application and drawing, not with a broad request for an “acoustic panel price.” Groove geometry, board selection, finish, edge condition and project compliance requirements can change what is manufacturable and what evidence a supplier must provide.
1. State where and how the panel will be used
Identify whether the panel is intended for a wall, ceiling, furniture component or another installation. Include the visible side, installation orientation, support method and environmental conditions that matter to the project. This helps the manufacturer review machining direction, exposed edges and handling requirements.
2. Provide a dimensioned drawing
The drawing should show overall length, width and thickness, groove direction, groove spacing, groove width and depth, edge details, cut-outs, holes and any repeated pattern datum. A reference photo is useful for appearance, but it cannot replace dimensions.
3. Define the board and surface requirement
Specify the intended substrate or ask the supplier to review suitable wood-based board options for the application. Also state whether panels are required unfinished, painted, laminated, veneered or prepared for another finishing process. If a particular colour is required, provide a physical sample or an agreed colour reference and define the acceptable comparison method.
4. Separate acoustic requirements from appearance
A grooved panel’s appearance does not by itself prove a particular acoustic result. If the project requires sound-absorption data, fire performance, formaldehyde or other emissions limits, state the exact standard and required report before quotation. Do not assume a supplier’s general material description is equivalent to project-specific compliance evidence.
5. Confirm backing and installation interfaces
Show any backing material, perforation, spacing, frame, clips, fasteners or supporting construction that interfaces with the panel. If these items are supplied by another contractor, identify the dimensional boundaries that the panel manufacturer must follow.
6. Identify inspection points
Useful inspection items may include overall dimensions, groove spacing and direction, visible surface condition, edge treatment, hole locations and packing condition. The drawing should distinguish critical dimensions from general reference dimensions and state tolerances only where they are functionally required.
7. Give quantity, packing and destination information
Provide prototype quantity, expected production quantity, panel stacking restrictions, destination country and any pallet or carton constraints. Large decorative panels can be damaged by edge impact, surface abrasion or unsuitable stacking, so packing should be reviewed with the product rather than added as an afterthought.

- Which drawing revision controls production?
- Which surfaces and edges remain visible after installation?
- Is a physical colour or finish sample required for approval?
- Which performance reports are mandatory for the destination project?
- What dimensions require recorded inspection results?
- How should the panels be separated, wrapped and palletised?
